Vuelta Espana Green Jersey

The 'all rounder' jersey, sometimes called the combination. It is based on the combination of the overall, the mountain points and green jersey points whereby a rider's position in each competition is added and the lowest standing wins, eg 4th on overall, 9th on the mountains and 2nd in the points equals 15 combination points. In the Vuelta a Espana, the green jersey is worn by the 'King of the Mountains', the leader in the competition for the best climber. The Giro d'Italia also used a green jersey for its 'King of the Mountains' from 1974 to 2011, but that jersey was changed to a blue jersey, starting in 2012. Santini is official partner of La Vuelta, Spain's Grand Tour and one of the leading mens road cycling races on the UCI World Tour. The collection features 3 lines of high performance technical clothing Designed and Made in Italy: The Leader Jerseys, Kilometro Cero, and the Stages Line.

The symbol of the Green Jersey is Peter Sagan. There is no reason denying it. With seven Tour de France ŠKODA Green Jerseys under his belt, he is the record-breaker and the ultimate Mr Green. So, how come the Vuelta's overall winner Primož Roglič won the green as well? With all due respect, he is no sprinter – the reason is is because the points classification at La Vuelta is entirely different from the one at the Tour.

The points are awarded according to the placement at the finish line of every single stage. There are intermediate sprints as well but the number of points awarded there (4 points for the fastest rider) does not make much difference in comparison to the stage wins (25 points for the fastest rider). With the high number of summit finishes at La Vuelta, the results often correlate with the general classification.

In 2012, for example, John Degenkolb won five sprint stages but finished fourth in the points classification. Alejandro Valverde scored the points needed in the mountains and beat him by 50 in the end. Coincidently, Valverde, alongside Seán Kelly and Laurent Jalabert, has 4 titles to his name. Will Roglič threaten this record in the future? We shall see.
